Refinishing & Installation

One Team. Every Hardwood Service.

USA Pro Floors has been refinishing and installing hardwood floors across Maryland since 2010. Whether you want to bring a 40-year-old oak floor back to life with a modern stain, install a brand new walnut floor in a new addition, or repair water damage from a leaky fridge — we do it all with one crew, one quote, and one point of contact.

Most Maryland homeowners come to us unsure whether to refinish or replace. The honest answer: if your floors still have at least 1/8 inch of wear layer above the tongue, refinishing saves 50-75% versus replacement and delivers a result that looks identical to brand new. We check during a free on-site estimate and give you a straight recommendation — never upsell you into a job you don't need.

Our refinishing process uses low-dust refinishing equipment connected to industrial HEPA vacuums, capturing 98-99% of dust at the source. Traditional sanding coats your entire house in fine wood dust that gets into cabinets, furniture, HVAC, and lungs — we don't do that. Once sanded, we apply your chosen stain color and three coats of premium oil-based or water-based polyurethane, with a light screen sand between coats for maximum adhesion and durability.

For new installations, we work with solid oak, maple, hickory, walnut, and engineered hardwood from major manufacturers. Nail-down on plywood subfloors, glue-down on concrete slabs, floating installations over moisture-prone basements — we match the install method to your specific home. Every job includes sanding, finishing, shoe molding, transitions, and cleanup.

FAQ

Hardwood Refinishing & Installation FAQs

Should I refinish or replace my hardwood floors?
If the wear layer is still thick enough to sand (at least 1/8 inch above the tongue), refinishing saves 50-75% versus replacement and delivers the same like-new result. We measure during a free on-site estimate and give a straight recommendation.
How much does hardwood refinishing cost in Maryland?
Maryland refinishing runs $3 to $8 per square foot depending on square footage, stain complexity, and repairs. A typical 800 sq ft project runs $2,400 to $5,000. New hardwood installation runs $8-$14 per square foot installed including materials.
How many times can hardwood floors be refinished?
Solid 3/4 inch hardwood can typically be refinished 4-7 times over its lifetime. Engineered hardwood depends on veneer thickness — most handle 1-3 refinishes. We check your floor before quoting.
Do you install new hardwood floors too?
Yes. Solid and engineered hardwood in oak, maple, hickory, walnut, and more. Nail-down, glue-down, and floating installs. Same team handles install and refinishing so you have one point of contact.
How low-dust is your refinishing process?
Our HEPA-connected equipment captures 98-99% of sanding dust at the source. Not 100% dust-free, but the difference vs traditional sanding is dramatic — your home and air quality stay clean throughout the job.
How long does a refinishing project take?
Most projects take 2-4 days. Sanding day 1, staining day 2, finish coats days 3-4. Walk on floors in socks after 24 hours, move furniture back after 72 hours, allow 7 days before rugs go back down.
